Amazon announced that it would now employ an extra total of 100,000 new warehouse and delivery workers to meet with the increased demands of items/shipments as a result of the global Corona Virus Pandemic. In addition of recruiting new workers, Amazon would also increase the hourly pay of workers employed to fill in these positions by an additional $2 in the United States through April.
As more Americans stay indoors to stay isolated and protected from the COVID-19, they have turned to E-commerce stores like Amazon to purchase their everyday groceries and household supplies.
However, Amazon told all those who might have ordered for items using Amazon prime, to be patient that there might be a delay, seeing that some of the key component good that are in high demand appears to be out stock, due to obvious popular demand of highly sought-after household staples.
“Getting a priority item to your doorstep is vital as communities’ practice social-distancing, particularly for the elderly and others with underlying health issues. We are seeing a significant increase in demand, which means our labor needs are unprecedented for this time of year, “Dave Clark, Amazons senior vice president of worldwide operations.
As restrictions progress as the virus spreads health officials such as WHO and the center for Disease Control and Prevention advised people to adopt the act of social distancing in order to protect themselves from the virus.
