When it comes to smartphones with foldable displays, it seems that only Samsung seems to be exploring that front, at least publicly. However, it looks like Samsung might not be alone in this because according to reports, Apple could be getting in on the action as well.
The reports suggest that Apple is working with their Asian partners on such a device which they expect to launch by 2020. According to these reports, Apple analysts belives that iPhones this fall are expected to be largely unchanged for the OLED versions although size changes have proved to be a catalyst in the past whilst also suggesting according to further researches carried out, that Apple is working with suppliers on a foldable phone that potentially could double up as a tablet for launch in 2020.
Like I earlier mentioned, so far Samsung appears to be the only company to have publicly confirmed that they are working on a phone with a foldable display. While it will no doubt be a great way to showcase their display technology, it is unclear if such a device will have any demand. An example would be phones with glasses-free 3D displays which was an interesting idea, but clearly never really had a life worthwhile.
