Apple may not be including EarPods in the iPhone 12 box, as it might be sold separately
This news came rather shocking to us all. According to Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, this move is to drive demand for Apple’s popular wireless Airpods. Ever since the launch of the first model in 2007, Apple has been including earbuds to its iPhones. This is because the iPhone was pitched as a natural extension of the iPod.
Speaking further, Kuo said he expects Apple to leave out the old wired earphones that come with the iPhone as this will drive massive demand for AirPods shipments this year, adding that he expects a slight increase in Airpods shipments to be driven by an end to Airpods inventory reduction by the second half of 2020 (Q2).
There is also a likelihood that Apple will offer a special AirPods promotion in late 2020. In terms of shipments this year, Kuo said it will be at its lowest in the second quarter due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The total shipments declined by 17.2 million.
The Apple analyst, however, predicted the overall growth of shipments from his original estimate of 80-90 million pairs to 983.8 million.
He also confirms that the market is expecting new Airpods models in the second half of 2020. to him, it is likely to be a new set of Beats instead of a new set of AirPods. This means that AirPods Pro-Lite rumors are referring to headphones in Beats lineup.
