Apple is adding a new feature iOS 14 that will extend the lifespan of your Airpods by choosing when they charge
The iPhone maker says the operating will reduce how quickly your AirPods’ batteries age by learning when you charge them and predicts when to stop charging automatically. When you start charging them, you will notice that instead of the AirPods to stop charging at 100%, it will stop at 80%. It will then resume charging later.
A lot of modern devices such as Apple products use a lithium-ion battery, and experts have agreed that you should not keep them 100% charged, by doing that, you extend the battery’s life.
Apple is not the only one undergoing this process. Many modern phones and laptops including iPhones and MacBooks offer a similar feature called Optimized Battery Charging, which keeps your batteries from quickly wearing out.
Apple Airpods certainly needs this feature more than its phones or laptop and you also replace those batteries at a service center. The Airpods have been criticized for being disposable due to their non-modular, glued together design.
