Apple to settle teenager with $1bn in lawsuit over failed security

Apple expected to announce new iPads and Macs on October 30

A Teenager has just sued the Thrilion-dollars company, Apple, for a sum of $1bn after facial recognition led to false arrest

Its has been a long while since the Cuprtino-based company has been sued for a huge sum, and while this case is very unbelivable is because the lawsuit is filed by a single ‘person’, a teenager for that matter- This is not to say the young boy is not relevant, but to see such an extravagant demand coming from a young champ is very ridiculous, and almost crazy to say less.

so, you may want to know the reason why the young champ will demand for that much. Well, a good reason he got- The 18-year-old New Yorker have decided to file a lawsuit against Apple, after he was almost forcefully arrested for a failled Apple’s facial recognition sysytem. NYPD officers arrested Ousmane Bah on November 29th after he was falsely linked to a series of Apple Store thefts in Boston, New Jersey, Delaware and Manhattan.

Apparently, the real perpetrator used a stolen ID that had his name, address and other personal information. However, since the ID didn’t have a photo, the lawsuit states Apple programmed its stores’ face recognition system to associate the real thief’s face with Bah’s details.

A detective that eventually examined Apple’s surveillance footage after the arrest determined that the real Bah didn’t look anything like the thief. Further, Bah was attending his senior prom in Manhattan when the Boston theft, where $1,200 worth of goods were stolen, took place. While this is a rare case, the lawsuit argues that Apple’s “use of facial recognition software in its stores to track individuals suspected of theft is the type of Orwellian surveillance that consumers fear, particularly as it can be assumed that the majority of consumers are not aware that their faces are secretly being analyzed.”

Now you can understand why the little champ demand for so much, but my question is, why demand for a billion dollars, really! We are not talking of a million dollars, but ‘1 BILLION DOLLARS’, I hope he wins this case eventually, then I personally wouldn’t mind falling a victim another time.
