Bill Gate to fund universal flu vaccine with $12 million

Bill Gate has pledged a $ 12 million fund to the cause of tackling flu around the world.

Interestingly, while half of the seed-fund would come from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,  the other half would be from the family of Google co-founder Larry Page.

STAT points out however, that the money donated for the research to find a way around the the flu crisis around the globe is a stipend when compared to the larger need of the health system.

Bill & Melinda Gates foundation have given more than $9.5 million to support the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s efforts to take a universal flu vaccine into human trials, despite the bottle-necks that comes with the procedure.

According to him  in an interview with STAT. “This is the early-stage money, this $12 million isn’t the end of the game.”

Let us keep hoping that this would yield a positive result because this year recorded the strongest Flu attack ever.
