BMW Introduces Car Keys Support to its Mobile App

BMW Connected App for iPhone will be featuring car keys support and it will be coming to iOS 13 and iOS 14

With the new car key support, a BWM Digital Key can be added to the Wallet app on the iPhone.

The new feature allows the iPhone to be used to lock and unlock the car by holding it up to the door handle.

This feature can also start the car when the iPhone is placed in the smartphone tray in the vehicle.

If you want to give access to your car to anyone, you have the liberty of sharing access to up to five family members, but restrictions apply.

The BMW models that work with this feature include 1, 2,3, 4, 5,6,8, X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M, and Z4 if produced after July 1st, 2020.

Compatible cars will, however, be shown on the vehicle tab in the app. iPhones suitable for the new feature include iPhone XR, XS, and later.

As at the time the Car Keys was announced, the car manufacturer said the feature would require iOS 13.6, which has not been released by Apple.

For now, it is however not clear, if the digital key feature is working.
