Recently, there have been reports that Sonos could be working on a new portable speaker system that will allow users to play music through WiFi and Bluetooth. Those speakers have yet to make their debut, but it seems that Bose could have beaten them to the punch as the company has taken the wraps off their aptly named “Portable Home Speaker”.
It’s not the fanciest name Bose has come up with, but as we said, it is rather apt because it describes exactly what the speaker does. For starters, they will come with a built-in handle which will let you bring it around with you from room to room or while you’re travelling. According to Bose, the speakers will offer up 360-degree audio, “deeper bass than any other portable smart speaker its size”, and also comes with a very decent 12-hour battery life.
Also, given that this is a speaker in this day and age, it will also come with digital assistants built-in into it, where there will be support for both Google Assistant and Alexa. There is also support for AirPlay 2 for iOS and macOS users, although alternatively, users can also opt to use either Bluetooth or WiFi for wireless connectivity.
The speakers have also been designed to be somewhat water-resistant with an IPX4 rating, so it should be able to survive splashes, spills, and a bit of rain, although you probably wouldn’t want to dunk it underwater.
It is priced at $349 and will be available for purchase on the 19th of September.
