Google is pulling the plug off its 'Reply' app

One of the features that we’ve been seeing Google do with its services is introduce ways to quickly reply to messages. It was initially introduced in Gmail, where based on the content of the message, users could choose from various “smart” replies for something simple. Google then decided to try applying it system wide with the launch of its Reply app.

Launched earlier this year, it seems like the Reply app was rather short-lived. Google has since announced that they will be pulling the plug off the app. The app was developed by Area 120 which is a division within Google that experiments with various ideas and concepts, so the Reply app, according to the team, was merely one of those experiments.

In an email sent to users of the app,

As you know, Reply was an experiment, and that experiment has now ended. While it might still work for the next few months, you may encounter bugs, or see that the suggestions aren’t as good.” However according to the team, “Reply will live on in other Google products.

They also note that they are working with other groups within Google to integrate the things that they’ve accomplished and learnt with the app over the past 10 months. However, we’re not sure if features like the smart toolbar could be eventually integrated into future builds of Android, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.

In the meantime will anyone miss the app?
