Another addition has been made to the Google Assistant celebrity voice and it’s that of Issa Rae
Jo-Issa Rae Diop, known as Issa Rae, is an American actress, writer, director, producer, and web series creator. She is currently enlisted to join the small club of celebrities to lend their voice to Google Assistant.
The disclosure of her participation was made know by Google who on several platform share a video that saw Rae demonstrating what the new experience would feel like.
According to Google, Rae will now be able to give answers to people’s commands on various OS and devices including iOS, Android, as well as on Google Home speakers and various smart displays, like Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, and Lenovo Smart Display.
Also, like it did with some of the celebrities on the list, Google affirmed that Issa’s voice will only be available for a stipulated period of time. However, to make use of it already, You would have to switch from your current Google Assistant voice to that of hers by saying – “Hey Google, talk like Issa,” or by switching the settings within the mobile app. I guess if you did use that of John Legend that was previously added, you do be familiar with the system by now.
While Rae may only respond to certain or specific queries, you would literally make use of some specific phrases in order to trigger a unique response from Rae.
Below is a list of sample commands, as provided by Google:
- “Do I need an umbrella today?”
- “Tell me a secret.”
- “What do you think of me?”
- “Give me a quote from Issa Rae.”
- “Sing a song.”
- “Tell me a joke.”
- Or ask, “Mirror talk” or “How do I look?” for confidence-boosting affirmations.
That been said, there are other special responses that Issa records, and Google informed that you could ask a query like “Hey Google, do you love Daniel or Lawrence more?” or “Hey Google, tell me something awkward.”
Beyond those specific response, don’t be surprised to hear the standard Google Assistant take charge when it comes to random queries. Why is because, unlike the Legend’s integration, Google used a different approach for Issa Rae which in her own case, her voice wasn’t simulated through WaveNet, as the company did with Legend, hence the limitations. Most likely the reason it is also allowing the voice for a short term.
Having Issa’s voice as an option is great, and interested users can already give it a try.
