Things have gotten easier with tech. You can check your NIN using USSD code in few simple steps
The frustration of going to queue at NIMC’s office for hours all in the number of getting a National ID card has become the trend of the day.
Many have recounted how they haven’t been given their IDs even after years of registration.
The main idea of having a National Identity Number is basically to create a national database, hence the stop to identity fraud.
Upon your registration, you will be issued a NIN and eventually a National Identity Card. This takes between 1-5 working days.
NIMC in 2018 stated that it is planning to issue out electronic identity cards 9 (e-ID) to 70 million Nigerians by the end of December 2019.
Sadly, many citizens are still bitterly complaining of not been issued their ID cards after all these years.
How to Check Your National Identification Number Using USSD Code
If you have enrolled for the national ID Scheme, follow these few steps (Note that you must have at least #20 when going through this process):
- Dial *346# from the phone number associated with your voter’s card, driver’s license, or BVN registration.
- Immediately you dial the number, your NIM number will be displayed on your screen.
- Write down the number or take a screenshot of the number because it will not be displayed twice. For now, you can dial the code via MTN, Airtel, and 9mobile.
Good news, the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (Jamb) has said it will not be making use of the NIN for registering UTME and direct entry exams until 2021.
This is due to technical issues that affected the registration system at the NIMC (National Identity Management Commission).
