When you get a new laptop, you will need to transfer all your files to your new laptop. This can be very tedious and stressful. But you can do this, under 30 minutes using apps and services that come with your PC.

How to Transfer All Your Files to Your New Laptop Under 30 Minutes
- Back up your files on your old laptop: One Drive is the easiest way out which is Microsoft’s backup app. To use the app, make you are signed into Microsoft account. Open the Settings app and click “Accounts” under your username, you will see the email address you use for your Microsoft account. Once you re done, click on the OneDrive icon in your taskbar notification area. In the bottom-left corner of the pop-up window, click “Open folder”. Simple drag and drop any files that you want to move to your new computer into this folder and they will be backed up and ready to go.
2. Get more storage space:
OneDrive has a 5GB of storage space for free. If what you want to move to your new laptop is bigger than 5GB, you will need to buy additional storage space. To buy more space, click on the OneDrive icon in the notification area again, then click “Go premium”. You will be given a series of upgrade options, e.g, 100GB for $1.99 (₦771.12) for a month, 1TB plus Microsoft 365 apps, and extra for $69.99 (₦27,121).
You can also get 15GB for free at drive.google.com by using your Google account in any web browser and drag and drop the files you want to move to your new PC.
3. Download your backed-up files:
Highlight the files you want to download by holding Ctrl and clicking each one. Then right-click the selected files and Download, Google Drive will then compress everything into a Zip archive to reduce download size. When that is done, choose a download location and save the zip file. Once the download is complete, unzip the archive and move the files to your chosen location on your laptop.
4. Reinstall your favorite apps:
To do this, use the Microsoft Store, which is a built-in app that lets you download a large range of programs. In the Windows 10 search box, type “Microsoft Store” and click the first result. Or use Ninite which lets you select a range of apps of your new laptop, then packages them all up into a single installer.
