Microsoft will be shutting down the Cortana app for iOS and Android
Microsoft has announced that it will be shutting down the Cortana app for iOS and Android, adding that it has plans to shift toward a transformational AI-powered assistant experience in its Microsoft 365 apps.
The new plans the company is proposing will involve refocusing its areas of innovation and development.
For this reason, Microsoft is ending support for third-party Cortana skills and killing the Cortana apps for iOS and Android devices.
For the third-party skills, it will stop working from September 7, while the iOS and Android apps will stop working as well starting early next year.
Giving further insight on the new plans, Microsoft said the Cortana Windows 10 experience, Cortana integration in Outlook mobile, and the upcoming Cortana voice assistance in the Teams mobile app can be used to do things like manage calendar and email and join meetings.
The technology company also plans to end support for Cortana integration in the Harman Kardon Invoke speaker January next year. People who use Cortana speakers are eligible for a $50 Microsoft gift card as compensation.
For those who do not know who Cortana is, it is a virtual assistant developed by Microsoft, which uses the Bing search engine to perform tasks such as setting, reminders, and answering questions for the user.
