Next-Gen Xbox Games Could Arrive For Non-Microsoft Platforms

The way the console market has worked is that companies such as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo create games that are typically exclusive to their own platforms. This is an attempt to differentiate themselves from each other, and to also lure gamers from one platform to their own platform.

Unfortunately, this has resulted in a fragmented market, but that’s something that Microsoft is hoping to address in the future because according to Xbox Game Studios chief, Matt Booty – he suggested that in the future, Microsoft could be considering releasing Xbox games on non-Xbox platforms, such as those by Sony and Nintendo.

According to Booty,

I think that the question is less binary about, ‘should it be on Switch, should it be on PlayStation?’ and more, ‘does it make sense for the franchise?

However, he notes that this does not mean that exclusive titles will be gone. In his words;

But then obviously we’re going to have our big franchises like Forza, Halo and Sea of Thieves, where those games are designed from the outset to really exist on Xbox, I think that will continue.

To date, Microsoft’s releases have typically been for both the Xbox and PC platform, but for the most part, we haven’t really seen an Xbox game, at least one designed and developed by Microsoft, arrive for non-Xbox platforms.

When these changes are expected to be made remains to be seen, but it could be something to look forward to in the future.
