OPay’s Could Add a Messaging Service to its Platform Soon


OPay actually meant no joke when it asked its fans on Twitter to suggest the next ‘O’ service they prefer

In the latest development, the Opera-backed multi-service platform is reportedly working on another service which according to a reliable source, may soon go live in the coming months.

Techpoint who wrote about the upcoming feature revealed that the new Opay feature will be called Friend, and will enable communications between friends and family who use the OPay app. “The Friends feature is to foster more communication amongst friends and family who use OPay.” OPay’s Senior Director of Operations, Ridwan Olalere told a techpoint representative via mail.

While the OPay has been up to a lot of digital activities lately, it appears that the company is trying to focus on its primary vision- to drive financial inclusion in Nigeria. Just recently, the startup introduced new services to its platform including the recently-launched OCar, and a USSD code that allows its numerous customers to make a seamless transaction such as transfers, withdrawals, and other services

As for the messaging service- Friend- or source shared the functionalities of the upcoming service– explaining that it will allow for a real-time conversation like other messaging services like Whatsapp and WeChat. On that note, Users will be able to make quick fund transfer, as well as shared payment.

For now, there is, but a few things to talk about Friend, however, giving that our source confirmed an imminent launch, then we can look forward to knowing more about the new service.
