If you have ever dropped your smartphone, then you already know how fragile the screens can be. However, according to a new report, Samsung thinks that they might have found the solution as the company is now boasting that they have developed an unbreakable smartphone display.
According to Hojung Kim, general manager of the Communication Team, Samsung Display Company, it is a flexible OLED panel that features an unbreakable substrate. In his words;
The fortified plastic window is especially suitable for portable electronic devices not only because of its unbreakable characteristics, but also because of its lightweight, transmissivity and hardness, which are all very similar to glass.
In addition to being used on smartphones, he said that the newly developed display is expected to find viable markets with other electronic products such as display consoles for automobiles, mobile military devices, portable game consoles and tablet PCs for e-learning.
The use of the term “unbreakable” isn’t a fancy marketing term used by Samsung, but one that has apparently passed the same durability tests that the US Department of Defence use. It is said to be capable of surviving drops from as high as 1.2 meters off the ground, 26 times in succession, and also capable of surviving varying temperatures from as hot as 71 degrees to as low as -32 degrees, where it continued to function normally without any damages to its front, sides, or edges.
However, there are no details on when this new unbreakable smartphone display will appear in a smartphone, but we won,t be surprised if it found its way into future Samsung smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus.
