Samsung’s Z Flip glass covering is now ready to be used for non-Samsung foldable phones
According to a report by Yonhap, the 30-micrometer-thick covering is as a result of the partnership with glass manufacturer Dowoo Insys, in which Samsung Display holds a minority stake.
Giving details on the glass layer that is protected by an additional layer of plastic, YouTube Channel JerryRigEverything said the glass layer is vulnerable to scratching. It was also revealed that the screen could break when the plastic layer is removed.
However, Samsung Display said the glass is tough but still tender and able to withstand 200,000 folds. Samsung’s move in commercializing its Samsung Display’s ultra-thin glass is a big step for foldable devices, as most phone companies now have manufacturers they go to for their phone glasses.
