Samsung’s first-ever 15.6-inch 4K OLED display comes in a laptop

Samsung is keen to quality display, and that has always been the core priority of the tech giant over the decades

For a long, while now, TVs and smartphones have been the only gadgets with the OLED display setup, and ever since that campaign of 4K OLED screen, a majority has been waiting for a day that we will be welcoming such an innovative concept in the Laptop world. However, Samsung has finally proven their devotion to quality display, and it is rolling out its first series of 4K OLED display laptops- the first-ever to be launched by the tech giant.

While Samsung is coming a bit late in the game, the likes of HP and Dell were fortunate enough to lead the train, revealing their own 4K OLED laptops during the just concluded CES 2019 event.  Now we know one likely source for those, as Samsung has unveiled what it says is the first-ever 15.6-inch 4K OLED display. The screens will offer “HDR, excellent color reproduction and high outdoor visibility,” said Samsung Display’s marketing director Yoon Jae-nam.

Each pixel has its own “light,” so you get true blacks when they’re turned off, and Samsung points out that the panels meet VESA’s DisplayHDR True Black specification. OLED panels tend to have better color accuracy than LCD, too, and can easily handle HDR. The brightness levels peak out at 600 nits, enough to meet the demanding DisplayHDR 600 certification, and the display covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 range with 34 million colors. It’s also thinner, lighter and uses less power compared to an LCD, Samsung said.

There is no doubt that there are many benefits to enjoy from the 4K OLED display, however, not without issues, as screen burn-in and overall lifespan can be problematic. According to our source, Samsung affirmed that they will embark on manufacturing the panels in mid-February of 2019, but hasn’t said which laptop makers will be using them. However, we already have a couple of OLED-screened laptops on the way; the likes of  Dell’s XPS 15, Alienware m15 and G 15 in March, and HP will release its Spectre x360 OLED 2-in-1 laptop in July. I think its just a perfect year for laptops already.
