You would think that with Spotify being available on iOS devices for so long and with the Apple Watch been around for years, then an official Spotify app for the Apple Watch would have been launched a long time ago. However, this hasn’t been the case, at least until now.
According to a new report, Spotify has recently started testing an official app for the Apple Watch. Beta testers of the iPhone app are beginning to gain access to the Apple Watch version of the app. In a statement issued by Spotify with regards to the testing of the Apple Watch app, they said,
We’re always testing new products and experiences, but have no further news to share at this time.
Based on the tests so far, it looks like the app for the Apple Watch is rather basic in nature where for the most part it will just be used as another way to control music playback. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since we’re sure that many users will probably be able to appreciate that they can control playback from their wrist.
However, it is unclear if more functionality will be brought to the app beyond just playback control, but for now, we will keep our eyes peeled for more information.
