Whatsapp is Testing QR Codes to Lets Users Add Contacts

Whatsapp is currently testing QR codes to let users add contacts to its messaging platforms

The about to be released feature appears in the beta version for both iOS and Android versions and can be seen in the app’s setting menu. The setting menu includes options to display your own QR code and also scan the codes for other users.

Mind you, the QR codes can be canceled if users decide that they do not want to share their numbers with someone again. The feature is another way of adding contacts WhatsApp directly and should have been launched a long time ago.

At present, the users must first add a contact via the Contacts tab in Apple’s Phone app. It is only after this, the users will be able to open WhatsApp and send them a message. With the QR code, you will be able to skip this part which makes the process a lot easier.

The QR code release date to the public has not been announced yet. The messaging app recently restricted mass forwarding of messages in order to slow the spread of misinformation on the platform. It also added a group video chat capability for up to eight users at once.
